The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) has now entered Phase 2, with the next deadline for compliance set as 5th December 2019.
Elmhurst Energy Consultancy can help you get ahead of ESOS Phase 2 by helping you through your ESOS compliance requirements.
The qualification date for ESOS phase 2 is 31st December 2018.
Businesses meeting the criteria for ESOS qualification on the above date will need to comply with ESOS. The criteria targets large organisations (Large undertakings) with:
250 or more UK employees
an annual turnover in excess of €50 million AND an annual balance sheet total in excess of €43 million
In addition to this, if you are part of a group of undertakings (corporate group) which includes one or more large undertaking located in the UK, you will also qualify for ESOS. Full guidance for ESOS qualification is provided by the Environment Agency here.
The compliance date for ESOS phase 2 is 5th December 2019
If you had an ESOS energy audit and provided notification of ESOS compliance to the Environment Agency in 2015, then you'll already know what is required as nothing has changed. ESOS requires that the energy audit is revisited with updates or reviews submitted to the Environment Agency on a four-year cycle. Therefore, businesses that qualify for the scheme must measure their energy consumption, conduct energy audits and send a notification/report of compliance to the Environment Agency before the 5th December 2019 deadline.
In addition to ESOS Audits, other routes to compliance are available, including ISO 50001 certification, Display Energy Certificates and Green Deal Assessments.
ISO 50001 and ESOS Compliance
Information from the ESOS audit which took place in phase 1 can be used as a basis for implementing an energy management system certified to ISO 50001. This will automatically demonstrate compliance for phase 2 of ESOS and will make it easier to demonstrate compliance with other phases of the scheme going forward.
Elmhurst Energy Services will work with you to ensure that your business achieves ISO 50001 certification.
It is important to look ahead and make an early start with ESOS phase 2 compliance. There are around 10,000 businesses that will be impacted by ESOS and each one requires some form of energy audit to ensure compliance.
We advise businesses who qualify for ESOS Phase 2 to get in touch with us as soon as possible in order to allow plenty of time to collate the data necessary for ESOS and organise an ESOS Audit. Starting early will also give you time to implement the recommendations provided from the ESOS Report.
