What is an Energy Statement?

An Energy Statement, or Energy Strategy Report, demonstrates how your project will adhere to local energy efficiency targets. As these are set at the local level, instead of nationally, you will have to look up your local Planning Authority’s (LPA) Carbon Emission and Renewable Energy Targets.

Most LPAs request a 10-19% reduction in carbon emissions and energy use on top of those required by Building Regulations (separate rules apply for Scotland).

What does an Energy Statement include?

An Energy Statement is similar to a SAP or SBEM calculation (needed to produce an Energy Performance Certificate) with the difference that it includes a detailed calculation report to show how a building will meet the relevant LPA’s Carbon Emission and Renewable Energy Targets. It includes:

  • Baseline annual CO2 emissions and energy costs
  • Energy efficiency of the building fabric
  • Heating, ventilation and lighting factors
  • Low and zero carbon feasibility report – renewable energy technologies
  • The contribution and cost breakdown of each proposed renewable energy technology

How can I get an energy statement?

Elmhurst Energy Consultancy can provide you with an Energy Statement to support your planning application. This can be tailored to suit your individual project, with the inclusion of supporting evidence to increase your chance of gaining approval.
